Access control systems are electronic security solutions that can monitor, control and log the flow of people and vehicles in and around establishments. They can be as simple as a door entry system using a keypad or an all encompassing multi-site access management system with features such as biometric readers and automatic number plate recognition.

For controlling entry into buildings simple door entry systems are most cost effective. These can be in the form of audio or video systems allowing operation of the door from one or more locations within the building. For more advanced control keypads or proximity readers can be added to allow operation of the door from outside the building enabling authorised persons to enter. These type of systems are ideal for entrance control in office buildings or for main entrance door control in apartment blocks.

Where access needs to be controlled over a number of doors and where individuals have different access permissions a more sophisticated access control system is required. For smaller installations with relatively few personnel a stand-alone access control sytem would be appropriate.

When it conmses to larger, or multiple, premisses with large numbers of staff a computer managed access control system is most appropriate. These type of system allow easy management of staff access permissions and can also be employed for time and attendance monitoring and integrated with security, CCTV and fire systems for evacuation role calls.
